这是数词用法
①前面有数字时thousand不能加S。a thousand (一百)，two thousand(两百)，three thousand(三百)，以此类推【hundred与这个thousand用法一样】
②thousands of意思是成千的，是一个短语吧，类似的还有hundreds of 意思是成百的。前面不能加数词，也就是说two thousands of是错误的，只能单用thousands of

1，当具体到几千时候不加S也不加of，就是数字是具体的，比如 3千人：就是 three thousand people
2，表示粗略估计，或者很多的，这时候thousand前就不能有具体数字，要加s和of，后面的名词用复数，如成千上万的车辆，就是 thourandr of cars

thousand只有在thousands of, tens of thousands of这一类词组中加s,而且这些词组前面不能再加数词了。
如果前面加数词，表示几千时，都没有复数，如three thousand

1、如果thousand表示具体的几千的话，不加s。e.g. （1）nine thousand 九千 （2）It's ten thousand kilometres away from here.距离这里有一万公里。
2、如果thousand 不表示具体的几千，而是表示“成百上千”等的意思，一般有固定搭配“thousands of”。thousands of前面还可以用many等词修饰.
e.g There are thousands of visitors in the park. 公园里有成千上万的游客.
